IFA 2024: Our 3 takeaways from the world's largest consumer and electronics show
IFA 2024 is a wrap and so is frient’s participation in the world’s largest consumer and electronics show held in Berlin.
And what exciting days it has been marveling at the latest gadgets, listening to inspiring talks, and speaking to likeminded smart home enthusiasts!
In case you missed out on all the fun and excitement from Messe Berlin, we have gathered 3 key takeaways from IFA 2024:
1. Smart home technology is still accelerating
This year at IFA, we were once again ecstatic to see how much the smart home technology scene is evolving and being integrated into all corners of daily life.
From smart kitchen appliances and climbing robot vacuums to elevated gaming experiences and EV chargers, IFA was proof that smart home technology is still booming and doesn’t show signs of stopping.
2. Open smart home ecosystems
Interoperability of smart home products seemed to be the headline at the IFA smart home section and new products unveiled highlighted support for various platforms.
This signals a move away from closed ecosystems that restrict the interplay of smart home products from different brands to open ones that enhance it.
At frient, we are big fans of letting users create their personalized smart home experience using many different products.
That is why the frient devices are compatible with a wide range of smart home hubs and platforms, such as Homey, SmartThings, Home Assistant, and more – and why we are working every day to create even more integrations to let the smart home creativity loose.
3. Energy optimization is still high on the agenda
Even though the energy market is not as volatile as it was some years ago, optimizing and saving energy is still high on the agenda for technology consumers and brands alike.
The exhibitions and talks at IFA showed that smart technology that can help you optimize energy consumption and save money is still a hot, not to mention important, topic.
Driven by the climate agenda and the potential for reducing users’ energy bills, IFA featured a range of energy-related products for the home. Both as energy-saving products in themselves and smart devices that improve consumption awareness, such as electricity meter interfaces like the Electricity Meter Interface 2, LED and Electricity Meter Interface 2, P1.
With the market for electric cars still booming, smart technology for electric car charging was a major topic at the event and an obvious use case for electricity meter interfaces that inform you about your electricity consumption to automate your charging for the lowest prices.
All in all, we experienced once again an impressive and exciting IFA, and a big thanks to everyone who came by to talk smart home and home automation with us at frient.
